About NWA Pride

Arkansas’ Largest LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration

NWA Pride is Arkansas’ largest LGBTQ+ Pride celebration and one of Fayetteville’s signature weekends. What began as a small community gathering has grown into a multi-day celebration that brings tens of thousands of residents and visitors to Downtown Fayetteville each year. In 2025, officials estimated that more than 40,000 people attended NWA Pride Weekend.

Our History

The first NWA Pride Parade rolled down Dickson Street in 2004, but LGBTQ+ community members and allies had been organizing rallies, marches, picnics, pageants, and celebrations in Northwest Arkansas for decades. Local Pride history reaches back at least to the 1975 Miss Gay Fayetteville Arkansas America pageant, hosted at George’s Majestic Lounge.

Ken Boyle, Joney Harper, and Norman Hadley founded NWA Pride, Inc. in 2007 to formally operate an annual parade and rally, while local organizations, venues, and community groups continued to organize smaller events throughout Pride weekend.

Pride-related events in Northwest Arkansas soon grew into a full month of programming, with the NWA Center for Equality coordinating events from 2007 to 2014. Regular events included the All Out June Pride Festival, White Party Northwest Arkansas, Dickson Street Divas Bingo, the Mister & Miss NWA Gay Pride Pageant, the Pride Picnic, the Pride Pub Crawl, and many others.

In 2015, NWA Pride, Inc. merged with the NWA Center for Equality to better serve the growing LGBTQ+ community with a unified vision. The merger helped coordinate resources, strengthen signature events, and support the continued growth of Pride-related programming. The two organizations became Northwest Arkansas Equality, Inc., and Susan Hartman was hired as the organization’s first paid staff member to manage operations.

In the years since, NWA Pride has continued to grow under the leadership and support of community organizers, volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, and civic partners. Kate Johnson, Hannah Withers, Richard Gathright, and many others have helped shape NWA Pride's activities and vision in recent years.

Today, NWA Pride is one of Fayetteville’s largest public celebrations and a major regional event for LGBTQ+ visibility, community, and joy. With support from local and national businesses, the Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission, city leaders, volunteers, performers, vendors, and community partners, NWA Pride has grown from a few hundred brave participants and spectators into a weekend that draws more than 40,000 people to celebrate LGBTQ+ life in Northwest Arkansas.
